The Girl Who Played With Fire (sweden 2010) 129 min. Naomi rapace, Michael Nyqvist, dir: daniel alfredson. The toughest chick in sweden returns to action in The Girl Who played with Fire, the second film adaptation of the late author stieg Larsson’s Millen-nium Trilogy novels. That would be Lisbeth salander, once again played with quiet, feral intensity by Noomi rapace. as Larsson’s readers and anyone who saw the first film (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, shown during the February aNac cine club) knows, Lisbeth is small in stature but big trouble for any man who crosses her--after all, this is the woman who set her father on fire after he abused

The Social Network (usa 2010) 120 min. Jesse eisen-berg, Andrew Garfield. Dir: David Fincher. They all laughed at colle-ge nerd Mark Zuckerberg, whose idea for a social-networking site made him a billionaire. and they all laughed at the idea of a Facebook movie--except writer aaron sorkin and director david Fincher, merely two of the more extravagantly talented filmmakers around. Sorkin and Fincher’s breathless picture, The social Network, is a fast and witty creation myth about how Facebook grew from Zuckerberg’s insecure geek-at-harvard days into a phenomenon with 500 million users. sorkin frames the movie around two lawsuits aimed at the lofty but brilliant Zuckerberg (eisenberg): a claim that he stole the idea from Ivy League class-mates, and a suit by his original, now slighted, business partner (Garfield). The movie follows a familiar rise-and-fall pattern, with temptation in the form of a sunny california Beelzebub (an expert Justin Timberlake as former Napster founder sean parker) and an increasingly tangled legal mess. Guadagnino. This lush drama is set within an Italian business dynasty in Milan. We see much of the film from the perspective of an outsider who has nevertheless fitted herself into this aristocratic world for many years: emma, the russian-born wife of the textile company’s new ceO. she’s played by Tilda swinton, whose customarily penetrating work is enhanced by her speaking russian and Italian (how does she do it?). The russian heritage might be a tip-off--emma could have a touch of anna Karenina about her--because she embarks on a grand affair with a much younger man. The many levels of melodrama play out against gorgeous exteriors and wildly overdressed interiors, as though Guadagnino looked back through Italian film heritage and decided it was time for someone to out-do the opulent visions of Luchino Visconti. Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film, is part cold-case mystery, part long-lost love story, and part thriller set both in the present and in 1970s argentina, under the tight control of its infamous military dictatorship. director campanella manages to tread easily across these genres with a story that’s gripping, a little outlandish, and compelling--if full of a growing sense of dread. Benjamin (darín), a policeman gets pulled into investigating a

decades-old crime, and becomes drawn in, almost against his will, as layers of information about the missing (murdered?) girl slowly come to light. as Benjamin inves-tigates, he runs into a woman for whom he has long carried a torch, Irene (Villamil), an ambitious judge who had also at one point been involved in adjudicating the old crime. Dúo de jazz formado por Ricky Vivar a la guitarra y diego suarez al piano. ricky publicó el año pasado un disco con la cantante pepa Niebla, producido por el afamado paco Ortega y que contiene versiones de las can-ciones más conocidas del jazz de los años cincuenta. diego es un asíduo pianista del centro cultural (electick up, coastline dixielanders, antti saprilla…). ambos han unido sus talentos para crear un sonido nuevo.This jazz duet features ricky Vivar on the guitar and diego suarez on piano. ricky perfor-med on singer pepa Niebla’s album last year, produced by

antti sarpilla Quintetc. c. Villa de nerja30 Mar. 21 h. sarpilla es uno de los pocos músicos de jazz finlandeses conocidos internacionalmente. edudió con el mundialmente famoso clarinetista y saxofonista americano Bob Wilber, con el que ha grabado 6 discos y conseguido multitud de premios. combina las influencias de los maestros, desde Louis amstrong a charlie parker, con su estilo personal. Actúa en festivales y conciertos de jazz por todo el mundo, bien solo o acompañando a grandes músicos. En Finlandia tiene su propia banda, The antti sarpila swing Band, con la que lleva ya 28 años. como en su visita del año pasado, actúa en formación de trío, acompañado por diego suarez al piano, y percusión. sarpilla nos visitó el 2009 con un homenaje al centenario del naci-miento de Benny Goodman, y el año pasado con nueva formación, cosechando un gran éxito en ambas ocasiones.antti sarpila is one of the few internationally known jazz musi-

cians from Finland. although based in helsinki, he performs extensively as a solo artist all over the world. antti sarpila has been a student of the world famous american clarinet and saxophone player Bob Wilber during the 1980’s. Wilber him-self was a student of legendary sidney Bechet in the 1940’s. This legacy is the reason for sarpila’s dedication and res-pect to the tradition of jazz. he wants to combine the influences captured from the early masters (from Louis armstrong to charlie parker) with his own personal style to create what would be best described as “classic jazz”. The continuing association bet-ween antti and Bob has reaped many rewards. One of the highlights was in 1988, when antti was asked to join Bob in doing a “Tribute to Benny Goodman” concert in carnegie hall, New york. In 2000 antti renewed his visit to this legendary concert hall with the swedish vibraphone player Lars erstrand. In Finland antti sarpila has his own group - the antti sarpila swing Band. The Finnish jazz federation has awarded antti sarpila with annual “George” award 1997 and Classic Jazz society with the “Louis Armstrong” award 1996.

This summer, they began teaching the International Flamenco course for the Villa de Nerja. antionio and Victoria are both from cordoba, and have both been winners at the National competition of Flamenco art in 1992. They have taken their art throughout the world, with performances in Japan, usa, australia, Finland, Greece, France and other countries. They divide their artistic careers bet-ween performing and teaching at the dance academy which they have run in cordoba for 16 years. although they shine in all dances, Victoria is particularly known for her Taranto and antonio for his Martinetes, dances for which they have won both awards and public acclaim. accompanied by a strong musical ensemble, the couple combines the delicacy of their dances with the nonchalan-ce of flamenco.

Departing from the usual flamenco con-ventions, guitarist and composer Tomás García presents an unusual interpretation of flamenco in which the traditional dances, bulerías, tangos, alegrías and fandangos are imbued with the modern influences of jazz, latino and classical music. The result is a blend that allows room for both improvisation and individuality in a way that expands the traditional genre of flamenco. In 1982 he worked in tablaos “Los Tarantos”,

“El Cordobes” and “La Venta del Gato” in Madrid. In 1983 he worked as a guitarist for antonio Salas, first dancer for the Antonio Gades company. he also accom-panied Jose Merce, camaron de la Isal, aurora Vargas and other great artists. In 2005, he released his first solo album, Pa’ er Teto, and is currently in the process of recording his second album.

artista finlandesa que vive en sayalonga. es pintora, escultora y realiza diversos trabajos, pero en los últimos 15 años lo que ha hecho fundamentalmente es foto-grafía. ha expuesto en Finlandia e incluso en rusia. cuando se trasladó a sayalonga, quitó el estudio y la habitación de revela-do y comenzó a hacer fotografía digital, aunque sigue enamorada de la tradicional.she says: “I am an Finnish artist who lives in sayalonga. I have made many kind of things (oil paintings, postcards, paper sculp-ture, and masks from plants), but in last 15 years mostly black and white photographs. I have had exhibitions around Finland and one also in russia.... When I moved here to Sayalonga (five

years ago) I had to give up my studio and the dark room and start to make digital photos. That was hard to me, because I liked a lot that old system. slowly, slowly I have got to know the digital world and finally I start to feel more like home in there. Now I also make color photos and some hardly manipulated prints, but still mostly I like black and white ones”.

La pintora veleña María del carmen Fernández, miembro de la asociación española de pintores y escultores, aepe, ha expuesto en municipios de la comarca, Málaga, Marbella, sevilla, almería, Granada y santander, y en el año 2002 representó a españa en la exposi-ción ceramiche d’arte per l’euro, que recorrió Italia, y en la Feria de arte de Gante, Bélgica. promovió, puso en marcha y expone en la exposición permanente del hotel Viñuela y la de la Villa Turística de la axarquía en periana, y participa en múltiples muestras colectivas.painter carmen Fernández, member of the spanish association for painters and sculptors, has exhibited in Málaga, Marbella, sevilla, almería, Granada and santander, and in 2002 she represented spain in the european ceramiche d’arte exhibition, and at the art Fair of Gante, Belgium. her

works are now on permanent dis-play at the hotel Viñuela and in the Villa Turística de la axarquía in periana. she has directed the first exhibition of Grupo Bruma-X and has created the group diversidad, made up of six painters from the axarquía. her works can be seen in institutes in the region, as well as in england, switzerland, sweden and Italy. she has also created the artwork for posters, murals and record covers. she directs her own art school in Velez and last most inaugurated a new mural at the el salvador church in Nerja.

Villa de nerja22 Mar.18 h.Federico Garcia Lorca - his Life, Times and Literary Legacy, by Roberta Kettela description of the life and works of the most well-known spanish poet and dramatist of the 20th century - an iconic figure personi-fying the tragedy of the spanish civil War. his life is seen against the background of spanish history at that time from the 1898 spanish american War (the year of his birth) through the primo de riviera dictatorship and the second republic to the outbreak of the spanish civil War in 1936 (the year of his execution). The themes of his works - he wrote 11 books of poems and 9 plays - will be dis-cussed, and there will be readings of a selection of his poems in spanish and english, as well as a look at the importance of the three spanish cities in his life: Granada, Madrid and Barcelona, and his close friendship with salvador dali.The poems in spanish will be read by Jose Manuel cabezas, head of the english department at the Nerja high school
