    THE CHRISTMAS WINDOW

Monetary Christmas Gifts Our Christmas Window is

opening soon. All donations marked as “Christmas” and given between December 10

    th and

    January 10th, OR given on

    Christmas, are not assessed the

7% Archdiocesan tax. And Gifts given by December 31st are, of course, tax deductible for you.

Your gift remains with the parish 100%. Your gift will be recorded on your family donor statement for the year it was received.

As always, your generous support of St. Thomas a’Becket is most appreciated!

Please Consider Online Giving Online Giving is a direct payment program whereby your contribution is debited automatically from your checking, savings, or credit card account into St. Thomas a’Becket’s bank account. It makes it easy to fulfill stewardship commitments, even when you can't attend church. Please seriously consider using Online Giving for your regular or one-time donations. You can set up your own account at https://www. abecket.org/online-giving. You indicate the funds you wish to support, the amount you wish to give, and the frequency of your donation – weekly, monthly, annually, or one time only. If you are hesitant or cannot set up your account, you can contact [email protected] with questions, or to have Grace set your account up for you. Online giving is safe, secure, and confidential; electronic contributions cannot be lost, stolen or destroyed and have an extremely high rate of accuracy. Online gift records are imported directly into parishioner donation accounts. Your participa-tion saves our parish the cost of the envelopes, postage, and staffing hours.

ANSWER ; “It looks like rain, deer.”

Happy Advent!!! The anticipation is growing! We are getting ready for a quiet Christmas this year but are grateful to be healthy and together. I pray you all have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the blessings from the Lord and time with one another. Gospel Reading: Luke 1:26-38 Key Passage: Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her. Family Questions Adults: How do you open your heart to what God wants for you? How do you follow the pathway that leads to happiness? Children: Is there something hard you need to do this week? What might make it easier?

I pray you all remain healthy and

safe. Have a blessed week! Betsy

For the Kids: Just for fun! What does Mrs. Claus say to Santa when there are clouds in the sky? For the Adults: Thought of the Day! "It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving." -Mother Teresa

Peace and Justice Committee Finalizing your Christmas gift list? Maybe you need something for a long-distance family member, teacher, coworker, COVID-19 frontline worker/organization, dog walker, postal carrier or the aunt who has “everything.” If so, consider a gift that keeps on giving - by honoring your recipient with a donation that also honors our rich tradition of Catholic Social Teachings (human dignity, the common good, subsidiarity, and solidarity). For instance, a gift to Heifer International (https://www.heifer. org/gift-catalog) helps lift struggling families across the globe out of poverty. For $20, a family will get a starter flock of 10 to 50 chicks and training in their care. Chicken eggs provide not only food for the family but also income for the extra eggs sold. Recipients pass along animal offspring to their neighbors, thus helping pull even more families out of poverty. Heifer also offers ducks ($20/flock), sheep ($120 or $10/share), goats, pigs, rabbits—even honeybees ($30). Such gifts offer families a future filled with hope! Another bonus: You can send a printable or e-card acknowledging the gift to your recipient. Other great last-minute gift ideas: World Vision (worldvisiongifts.org), similar to Heifer, offers a broader scope of gift/donation opportunities, such as life-saving medicines, anti-human-trafficking efforts and COVID-19 emergency response services. FINCA International (finca.org) provides small loans to the world's lowest-income entrepreneurs (most are women) to create jobs, build assets and improve standards of living. Michigan-Made Products (https://michigan-made.com): Looking for gift ideas and holiday foods that support small businesses and farmers close to home? This Pure Michigan site will help you select items or make gift baskets with Michigan-made products.

    Crosses for

Deceased Anyone who had a cross on display for their loved one

who passed between Oct. 2019 and Oct. 2020 should see Lisa Bittner after any weekend mass, or the office once the office is open again. They belong to the family members now.

All of the Vincentians send our prayers to the people of the parish during this week of our Lord’s birth. We appreciate the support that you have provided throughout this year. It allows us to continue to minister to the poor in our midst. The kindness that you show to those that you will never meet is still needed. We have all been affected by the pandemic this year. We still do our best to serve those who seek us out. One of our members offers this reflection. She has been a home visitor for almost ten years. The fact that we cannot make home visits at this time has affected her in both positive and negative ways. She certainly worries more for the people that we help, because we are often their last resort before either being evicted or having utilities shut off. She worries that the funding that we need to provide aid to those requesting help will not be available due to low mass attendance. We are not using the top hats. That is also a concern. She has, however, found more time while staying at home to pray for those in need. She and her husband have not returned to in person mass yet, but have changed to online giving including SVDP. She hopes by doing these things, that they can still help those who need us. Prayerfully consider how you can join with us as well.

Thank you to all who donated to Advent Giving Tree Display! Your generous donations of gift cards and generic items helped several families in our own community. We helped over 60 people in those families with gift cards and toys for their children. The generic items and some gift cards helped sixteen organizations in our surrounding area. This year we organized a different method for you to donate. Through the display, website, eBlast, and Amazon wish list, your donations closely matched last year. We are very appreciative of your willing to give to this project. Thank you to Amy and Tina who are amazing at coordinating this effort. Thank you to Rob for delivering gifts this year and in the past. And thank you to the St. Thomas a’Becket staff for their support in this endeavor.

    Gospel Verse: Luke 1:38

Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.

May it be done to me according to your word.

    Gospel Reading: Luke 1:26-38

    Homily

    Nicene Creed:

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

    begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

    Prayer of the Faithful

    Response: Lord, hear our prayer.

For the Church: that our hearts may be an authentic dwelling place for God and thus enable us to

bring God’s presence to all whom we encounter, we pray to the Lord:

For an end to the coronavirus pandemic: that God will heal the sick, strengthen the caregivers, and

guide the distribution and administration of the vaccines, we pray to the Lord:

For all who are away from home, particularly members of the military and relief workers: that God will

keep them safe, help them fulfill their duties, and restore them to their loved ones,

    we pray to the Lord:

For peace: that the advent of the Prince of Peace may enlighten hearts and minds to resolve disputes

with words and deeds of compassion, we pray to the Lord:

For all of us gathered here at St. Thomas a’Becket: that we, like Mary, may ponder God’s invitations

and give our full yes to all that God asks of us, we pray to the Lord:

For all who struggle with illness: that they may recieve new strength and comfort through the grace of

this Advent season, we pray to the Lord:

For all who have died in faith: that the coming of Christ may open for them the eternal joy and peace

of God’s presence forever, especially Walter Dunn

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

    Preparation of the Gifts

Response: Blessed be God for ever.
