Verbs with Reflexive Pronouns
An example of a simple sentence using a reflexive verb is “Pedro se lava” (Pedro washes himself).
A reflexive verb is when the subject and object are the same.
Pronouns used with Reflexive Verbs
me nos
te os
se se
You will begin to see verbs that look like lavarse, bañarse, and acostarse. Think about the “se” at the end as being a separate part of the word. In your mind think of these verbs like this:
Lavarse=lavar(se)
Bañarse=bañar(se)
Acostarse=acostar(se)
When you conjugate a reflexive verb, the pronoun goes in front of the conjugated verb.
Lavar(se)-to wash oneself
me lavo nos lavamos
te lavas os laváis
se lava se lavan
If your sentence has an infinitive verb, the pronoun can be attached to the end of it.
I’m going to wash my face.-Voy a lavarme la cara.
Reflexive verbs can also be used without the pronoun.
WITH PRONOUN:Juan se acuesta.-Juan goes to bed.
WITHOUT PRONOUN:Juan acuesta a los chicos.-Juan puts the
children to bed.
