ma will be marked by a special celebration at St. Mary's Ca-

thedral on October 4th this year. Fr. Kevin Rai will conduct a

morning of Prayer and Reflection on the growing importance

of the Fatima Message for the times in which we are living.

This special anniversary event will begin at 8:00 AM with a

Holy Hour and Rosary, followed by light refreshments and

SOCIAL JUSTICE CONFERENCE

The Catholic Diocese of Austin invites all of OLG to its

Social Justice Conference happening next Saturday, Sep-

tember 27 at St. Dominic Savio High School from 9am -

4pm. The Diocese says this conference is for all persons

interested in "what it means to serve the least of us." A fly-

er for this event has been inserted into the bulletin, which

gives instructions for registration by phone or web-

site. Registration deadline is Friday, September 26th.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) University Leadership Initiative will have an informational

forum on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

on Thursday, October 9 from 6-7:30PM in the OLG Parish

Hall. ULI will talk about what DACA is, how to apply and

renew, and register attendees for a free clinic where they

can have their application completed by volunteers and at-

Alberto Marvelli was born at Fer-

rari on March 21, 1918, the sec-

ond of seven brothers. When he

moved to Rimini with the family

he began to attend the Salesian

Oratory there. He was always

available and became a catechist

and leader: the Salesians’ right

arm. He loved to play all kinds of

sport. He took St. Dominic Savio

and Pier Giorgio Frassati as his models. After the Allies

arrived in Rimini he was appointed as an alderman in the

Town Council in the department responsible for rebuild-

ing, and the engineer in charge of civil engineering: “ The

poor are on our doorstep” he said; “the others can wait”.

His Marian and Eucharistic devotion really were the sup-

porting columns in his life: “What a new world opens up

to me contemplating Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament”, he

wrote in his diary.

Alberto Marvelli nacio en Ferrara

el 21 de marzo de 1918, siendo el

segundo de siete hermanos. Cu-

ando se trasladó a Rimini con su

familia, empezó a asistir al Orato-

rio Salesiano. Siempre fue dis-

ponible; llegó a ser catequista y

animador: la mano derecha de los

Salesianos. Le gustaba y praticó

todo tipo de deportes. Tomó como modelos a San Domin-

go Savio y a Pier Giorgio Frassati. Después de la entrada

de los Aliados a Rimini, fue nombrado asesor municipal

del departamento de vivienda y reconstrucción e ingeniero

a cargo de Ingeniería Civil: “Los pobres estan en nuestras

puertas”, decía; “los otros pueden esperar”. En su diario

escribió: “Qué mundo nuevo se me abre contemplando a

Jesús en el Santísimo Sacramento”.

Catholic Social Teaching Corner Sep 27 &28 : 26th Sunday of Ordinary Time

26º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

In the Gospels Jesus is always challenging the boxes we like

to create: like the boxes for “good” and “bad”. It is human to

create such boxes, but Jesus wants us to realize that we are

always called to see as God sees and not as human beings see.

That is not easy and it takes great humility and constant con-

version to see every person, even those whose lives are a con-

tradiction to our values as loved by God, and even as potential

saints. Jesus was able to do this, and calls us to do the same.

En el Evangelio Jesús siempre está retando los paradigmas

que nos gusta crear: tales como los paradigmas para lo que es

“bueno” y lo que es “malo”. Es humano el crear esos paradig-

mas, pero Jesús quiere que nos demos cuenta de que siempre

estamos llamados a ver tal como Dios ve y no como los hu-

manos ven. Eso no es fácil y requiere gran humildad y una

constante conversión para ver a cada persona, incluso a

aquellas cuyas vidas son una contradicción a nuestros valores

como seres amados por Dios, e incluso como santos potencial-

es. Jesús pudo hacer esto y nos llama a hacer lo mismo.
