SOLENOIDE

Dear M r . Navarrete:

1 was pleased to receive your facsimile letter and find that Out proposed valve appears to solve your problem. Regarding your C' technical questions, 1 have tried to answer them below.

1. Whlch are the material8 (CRES 430, 17-4, 440-C, Buna-N) in contact with fluid? Are they stalnless?

The valve contains parts manufactured from al1 of the mate- rials listed above. The valve body is 440-C. The solenoid assembly and plunger is 430. The inlet assembly 1s 17-4. These materials are al1 stainless. The O-rlngs are Buna-N. Al1 of the materials listed will come in contact with the fluid (water) and are fully corrosion resistant.

2. Could the valve support a weight of 225 kg?

We assume this question implies that the valve is required to support the weight of the pipe. The valve will support 225 kg in a static condition with the force applied axially through the centerline of the valve. Since we do not know al1 of your conditions, we have not analyzed dynamlc forces, shock, vibration or bending loads.

3. The fluid 1s water.

The proposed valve will function properly ln water. We assume you are using either tap water or distilled water in your application, rather than deionized water (highly corro- sive). Although our valve will handle water with a high

degree of entrained minerals and contaminants, we would suggest an upstream filter and a minimum of minerals. mineral content could cause a buildup over time, possibly shortening life and increasing pressure drop.

4, The valve would be installed in a pipe of 40 mm ID and 50 mm OD. Please change the fittings for my requirements.

We will incorporate fittings to accommodate your pipe dimen- sions. Please inform us of the exact configuration of your pipe so we can devise a method of attaching the valve to your pipe. straight threaded fitting or a butt weld. pipe end with tolerances would help us. Since there are so many industrial and military thread standards (both English and metric) we would appreciate if you would identify your preference. If you have no preference, we would recommend the US military standard MS33649. this specification.

5. Reduce the wall thickness to reach 3.0 bar paxlmum at 50 l/min.

We will reduce the wall thickness to optimize the pressure drop through the valve ln an effort to attain 3.0 bar maxi- mum at 50 l/min.

A full size drawing of our proposed valve is being sent express mail. Please note that this drawing does not show the thinned wall section nor your fittings,

Reference: Your fax letter of 27 Oct 1994

Dear M r . Navarrete:

1 will be pleased to answer your two questions:

1. The V68000-115-8-1 valve 1s a pllot operated valve. The valve remains closed without electrical power with or without fluid pressure. However, in order to open the valve, a minimum fluid pressure must be available to open the pllot section of the valve, which in turn opens the valve.

In order for a valve of small size to open against the force of your pressures and flows, a pilot operated section is needed. There are many valves that can operate directly against your forces (ie. without a pilot section), but they have very large solenoids and slow response times. 1 am not aware of any designs that would fit within your envelope requirements.

1 also want to reiterate the flow capacity of our valve. We understand the maximum flow rate will be 50 liters/minute. Our valve will open and close at this flow rate. We do not, however,

- _- - _

know the capacity of your pump. I f you deliver a flow rate greater than 50 liters/minute, our valve may not be able to I

I

We can guarantee closure at 50 liters/minute, 4ut not at any value greater than this. 1 to determine maximum flow rate with full shutoff capability before putting the valve in the ground. l

l 2 . The electronic signal conductor cable you specify may be able to work with our valve if you supply sufflcient voltage and power. Our valve requires 1.1 Amps and 20 VDC at room tempera-

You may wish to run a ground test

ture at the valve. Solenoid coil resistance is 19 ohms. The figure below shows the schematic.

Based on your wire size, we calculated the resistance of 1000 meters of wire to be 38.17 ohms. Therefore, total resistance is 38.17 ohms x 2 wlres of 1000 m length + 19 ohms coil resistance = 95.3 ohms. At 95.3 ohms resistance, you will need to supply 104.8 VDC in order to provide 20 VDC and 1.1 Amp at our valve.

38.17 A

1 hope this inforrnation has been beneficial. 1 have been in- formed by our factory that your valves will ship within one or two days. We hope you will have a successful test. Please inform u8 of the operation of our valve.

Very truly,
