This rich and varied collection is a tributeto one of the USArsquos most beloved rock lsquonrsquoroll groups and their influence on the LatinAmerican musical community Featuringmany of todayrsquos top Latin artists QuieroCreedence shows how CCRrsquos rootsyswampy sounds reflect the diversity ofstyles that make up American music bothnorth and south of the border
The first track ldquoCorre por la Jungla (RunThrough the Jungle)rdquo is performed byEnrique Bunbury founder of the rsquo80s rockband Heacuteroes del Silencio and is a straightcover until the salsa breakdown abouthalfway through Los Lobos do a greatthough fairly standard version of ldquoBootlegrdquotheir excellent musicianship perfectlysuited for CCR tunes Juan GabrielrsquosldquoGracias al Sol (Have You Ever Seen The Rain)rdquo perfectly captures the sweet sentimentof the original and is sure to be hit in its own right
Los Lonely Boys expertly execute ldquoBorn on the Bayourdquo Hermano Henry Garza burnswith Stevie Ray Vaughn-like abandon on guitar while his siblings Jojo (bass) and Ringo(drums) back him up with harmonies and solid rhythm If you listen closely to theoriginal there are subtle conga drums buried deep within the mix Perhaps this iswhere the cross pollination began
John Fogertyrsquos lyrics on ldquoWhorsquoll Stop The Rainrdquo were a cynical comment on the politics

of the 1960s as well as the rain at Woodstock where CCR performed in1969 Enjambrersquos ethereal version is sung completely in Spanish layered withgorgeous vocal harmonies and synthesizers and is almost a complete departureHowever the group manages to retain all of the bittersweet sentiment of the original
Oakland California based Bang Data steps outside the norm with ldquoFortunate Son(Fortunate Hijo)rdquo The bilingual hip-hop breakdown in the middle provides a surprisingride that effectively transmits Fogertyrsquos message of political discontent via modernmusical motifs and pleas for unity among the chaos of todayrsquos turbulent times
El Tri originated in the 1960s making it a pioneer of Latin rock Described as Mexicorsquosldquoquintessential working-class bandrdquo as well as its answer to the Rolling Stones theybring raucous energy to ldquoProud Maryrdquo and translate the words to reflect contemporaryissues of immigration and crossing the river in search of a better life The chorusldquoRolling rolling rolling on the Riacuteordquo is as catchy as the original and yoursquoll find yourselfhard pressed to resist singing along
Who knew ZZ Toprsquos guitarist and singer Billy Gibbons had a background in Latinmusic Gibbons released his Afro-Cuban flavored debut solo album Perfectamundo lastyear Here he performs ldquoGreen Riverrdquo with Santa Ceciliarsquos La Marisol to great effectwith his trademark guitar tone and pleasantly surprising percussion
Argentinian poprock band Los Enanitos Verdes (roughly translated as ldquoLittle GreenMenrdquo) sing with the reckless abandon for which Creedence became known onldquoTravelinrsquo Band (Viajero Band)rdquo
Whether through faithful emulation or radical reinterpretation this great compilationrevalidates the legacy of Creedence Clearwater Revival and how its influence on otherbands spans not only generations but borders as well That the songs still sound freshtoday and work so effectively in Spanish is a testament to the strength of the originalsJohn Fogertyrsquos brilliance and the admiration of CCRrsquos latino fans
