Live cultures in yoghurt or fermented
milk improve lactose digestion of the
product in individuals who have
difficulty digesting lactose. In order to
bear the claim, yoghurt or fermented
milk should contain at least 108
C F U s / g of live starter
microorganisms (Lactobacillus
delbrueckii ss bulgaricus &
Streptococcus thermophilus).
EFSA / Atributos funcionales probióticos
Atributos Funcionales aprobados
LEGISLACION Beneficios
Principales Argumentos:
- Relación dosis/efecto
- Biodisponibilidad

With the upgraded Propionibacterium freudenreichii W200 the following
8 EFSA health claims can be made:
• Vitamin B12 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
• Vitamin B12 contributes to the normal function of the immune system
• Vitamin B12 contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system
• Vitamin B12 contributes to normal psychological function
• Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism
• Vitamin B12 contributes to normal red blood cell formation
• Vitamin B12 contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism
• Vitamin B12 has a role in the process of cell division
Nuevos probióticos serían además Nuevos Alimentos
Novel bacterium to treat and prevent intestinal inflammatory diseases
(Faecalibacterium prautsnitzii).
There is no documented history of use in food before, hence Novel Food
Regulation (EC) No 258/97 is applied

Hopes that the resubmission of 74 probiotic health dossiers would win a sector-first
claim in the EU have been dashed after the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)
held its earlier line and unanimously rejected them all.
SENSIBILIDAD SOCIAL/ETICA
http://www.elconfidencial.com/alma-corazon-vida/2012/07/05/la-batalla-de-los-probioticos-101340/

Internet Hoaxes (canular-bobard) and counter-information

Internet WEBs :
…This scientific results
published in a prestigious
journal confirm our suspected
fears..
…This “active and alive
bacteria”(according to
Dannone) are the same that
farmers use for a long time to
make farm animals gain
weight faster (up to 10%)
Therefore, Dannone incite
us to grow our children like
chickens or porks
Arguments given by D. Raoult:
1) Obese have a different microbiota, with greater proportion of Firmicutes
than normal persons, therefore, probiotics (Lactobacillus y
Bifidobacterium) that are Firmicutes will increase their populations and
could favour obesity.
2) Massive use of probiotics in chicken and pork farms- A significant increase
of 10% in weight gain during growth.
3) Some studies have demonstrated weight increase in children that received
Lactobacillus rhamnosus, independently from the disease this probiotic was
prescribed for (Guandalini et al 2000).
