Preterit of –er / -ir verbs
The preterite is used to talk about what happened at a specific point in the past. To form the preterite
of –er and –ir add the these endings to the
verb’s stem.
Yo volví
tú volviste
El/ella/usted volvió
Nosotros (as) volvimos
Vosotros (as) volvisteis
ellos ellas volvieron ustedes
yo escribí nosotros(as) escribimos tú escribiste vosotros(as) escribisteis Ud. Uds.él escribió ellos escribieronella ellas
** Notice: Regular –er and –ir verbs have the same endings in the preterite. Like –ar verbs, there are no stem changes in the preterite for er verbs.
The verbs ver and dar have regular preterite endings but do NOT have
accents!!
