Description
RUPEX couplings are used in all applicationsrequiring an absolutely reliable transmissionof torque.
Description
Les accouplements RUPEX servent dac-couplements compensateurs partout o latransmission du couple rotatif doit tre abso-lument fiable.
Groer Einsatzbereich
Sonderausfhrungen mglich
RUPEX-Kupplungen knnen darber hinaus invielerlei Hinsicht speziellen Anforderungsprofilen
Unsere Projektabteilungbert Sie gern.
Wide range of applications
The RUPEX couplings of six different types covera wide range of requirements. Available in 26different sizes, couplings are available for a rangeof torques extending from 200 to 1,300,000 Nm.The RUPEX couplings with steel hubs allow thecoupling to be used at high speeds.
Angular, radial and axial flexibility
Due to the barrelled shape of the flexibleelements (the buffers) which are moveable intheir seating holes, angular, radial and axial shaftdisplacements can be balanced as required.
Torsionally flexible and vibrationdamping
RUPEX couplings damp torque impacts andallow shifting of critical speeds.
Fail-safe
RUPEX couplings are fail-safe up to the sheartorque of the metallic parts which is many timesthe permissible impact torque. They thereforeoffer the greatest possible operational reliability.
Independent of the direction of rotation
RUPEX couplings can be used for both directionsof rotation and are therefore suitable for reversingoperation.
Low maintenance
Assuming correct coupling design and correctalignment at assembly, the buffers which aresubjected only to compression during torquetransmission, have a long life.
Special designs possible
RUPEX couplings can also be adapted for specialrequirements in many respects. Numerous differ-
ent designs for special applications, all of whichhave been previously used and proven, are possi-ble. Our Project Department will be pleased to ad-vise you.
Grand domaine dapplication
Easy to install
The convex buffers in the RUPEX couplings can be pushed into position. Both bolts and buffers can bereplaced without any axial movement of the motor or machinery. Uncoupled machinery can be radiallydismantled (fig. 4.1).

freies Maschinenelement bewhrt.
Function
For decades, RUPEX couplings have proventheir worth as absolutely reliable and virtuallymaintenance-free machine components in allfields of mechanical engineering, in particular
in heavy-duty drive systems.
Fonction
The positive-locking torque transmission isachieved by flexible elements which are sub-
jected to compression only which causes elas-tic deformation.
The progressive spring characteristic andexcellent damping characteristics of the
buffers effectively counteract the dangerousbuild-up of rotational vibrations (fig. 5.1).
The optimized barrelled shape of the buffersfavours the compensating function for existingaxial and radial displacement. Restoringforces are minimized.
Due to their conical seating, the ground boltsare fixed free of any play. This effectively pre-vents reaming of the seating holes andformation of fretting corrosion.
Shafts and machinery can be dismantled with-out any axial movement simply by removingthe bolts and buffers.
The buffers can be used at ambienttemperatures from -30 C up to +80 C. Theyare electrically conductive and resistant to oiland other media.

Flexible Couplings
Selection of theCoupling Size
For the service factors empirical values were takenas a basis which generally assess the performanceof input and output combinations in service. Pre-dominant periodic excitation of the plant or startingand braking of large masses require a designaccording to DIN 740/2 or vibration calculationswhich can also be ordered from us. Elastische Kupplungen Flexible Couplings Accouplements lastiques
Technische Hinweise fr den Design Hints for the Renseignements techniquesEinbau Installation concernant le montage
1. Elastische Kunststoffpuffer
Hinweis erforderlich.
1. Flexible coupling buffers
Uninterrupted transmission of torque and relia-bility of operation cannot be guaranteed unlessoriginal RUPEX buffers are used.
2. Arrangement of the coupling parts
The arrangement of the coupling parts of typesRWN and RWS on the shaft ends to be connectedis optional. Both horizontal and vertical installation arepossible. With types RWB and RBS, the brake drum orbrake disk should be mounted on the shaft endon which the largest mass moment of inertia isacting.
3. Bores
For the tolerance zones assigned to the finished
bores, refer to table 23.I (selection of fits).Maximum finished bores on pages 14 to 21 applyto keyways acc. to DIN 6885-1 to table 23.II.
4. Securing the couplingRUPEX couplings are usually provided withparallel keyways acc. to DIN 6885 part 1 (table23.II) and set screw acc. to DIN 916. Taper key-ways acc. to DIN 6886, stressed-type fasteningfrom the inside of the hub, are possible. For thisdesign, however, it must be ensured that themaximum bores are only 60% of those permittedfor parallel keyways acc. to DIN 6885 part 1.
5. Safety precautions
Rotating parts must be protected by the pur-chaser to prevent accidental contact (legislationof October 23rd1992 on technical working equip-ment).For products supplied to customers abroad, thesafety regulations in the country in question mustbe taken into consideration.
6. Supporting the shaft ends
The shaft ends to be connected must be sup-ported directly in front of and behind thecoupling.
7. Balancing (acc. to DIN 740/2)General remarks:The balancing quality of allcoupling hubs with finished bores accords at leastwith G16 (to DIN 740 for n = 1500 -1min or v max.= 30 m/s, for balancing in one plane).
Balancing is carried out with half parallel key
(DIN-ISO 8821).
To be agreed: If operating or plant behaviourrequires a higher balancing quality, this mustbe agreed separately. For peripheral speeds ofv > 30 m/s (see 11.II), Flender recommends abalancing quality of G6.3, which can be carriedout in two planes, if required, and must also be
ordered separately.
If balancing is required with full parallel key,
this must be expressly stated.
clavette selon DIN 6885 1re partie.

8. Vibration calculations
For selection acc. to DIN 740 part 2 and for vibra-tion calculations literature is available, if required.Vibration calculations can also be ordered fromFlenders design department.
9. Installation and putting into service
For installation and start-up of RUPEX couplings,
always observe the operating instructions.
Alignment:
Misalignments of the coupling parts may resultfrom an inexact alignment during the assemblybut also from the operation of the plant (expan-sion due to heat, bending of the shaft, machineframe too soft, etc.).
RUPEX couplings compensate for misalign-ments between the machines connected. Whenaligning, the radial and angular misalignment of
the shaft ends should be kept to a minimum, asthis prolongs the life of the buffers under other-wise identical operating conditions.
The coupling must be installed and aligned inaccordance with our operating instructions. Themaximum displacement figures given in table 22.Iare intended for general guidance.
