Bulletin Deadline

Any information that you would like in our parish bulletin needs to be submitted to the parish office prior to 11:00 a.m. on

Monday.

The cut off date for the Thanksgiving weekend bulle-

tin is Nov. 15.

Just a Quiet Reminder… Out of respect for people that like to do their prepara-tion before or thanksgiving after the celebration of Holy Mass, please help us to keep the church a reverent place. Before Holy Mass and especially after, observe silence. We all like to visit, but please confine the so-cial aspect to the entrances, Fr. Thelen Hall, and the outside. Thank you!

Dear people of the parishes, Last week, I mentioned that I would offer an Advent talk on November 28. However, I made a mistake. I will present a talk on Advent customs, practices and treats on THIS TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14. It will begin at 7:00pm in the Rose Center. This is our continuing series A Cross, highlights practices and customs of our Catholic heritage. I hope that you can join me as we anticipate the Christmas season.

The Beatification of Fr. Solanus Casey, OFM, will be in Detroit on November 18. Fr. Arul, Fr. Ben and I will be attending. Over 350 people from the Diocese of Kalamazoo are signed up to attend. Bishop Bradley will be joining Archbishop Vigneron and the other Bishops of the Province of Detroit (the State of Michigan). While most of these ceremonies happen at the Vatican, Pope Francis has promoted that beatifications and canonizations could be celebrated in the local Diocese. It will be a privilege and a blessing to participate in the beatification. I will write more upon my return. Back at St. Joseph parish in St. Joseph, the SVdP Thanksgiving Baskets are being distributed on Saturday, November 18 from the Rose Center. Please return food items and monetary gifts to the Rose Center on Thursday, November 16. Baskets will be prepared in time for the Saturday distribution. Many parishes participate in the Giving Tree for local nursing homes, agencies, and other charitable organiza-tions. At St. Joseph parish in St. Joseph, the Giving Tree tags will be in place, beginning the weekend of November 18-19. We start early in order that gifts can be collected, sorted and distributed by Christmas. It’s going to be a short Advent season; while there are traditionally four weeks of Advent, this year there are three full weeks. The fourth week is actually one day (December 24). So, plan accordingly. St. Joseph Parish in Watervliet in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus collects gifts for the Holy Cross Children’s Services (HCCS) around the state. Boxes are located by the entrances of the church to deposit your gifts. We are requesting XL or XXL hooded sweatshirts with college logos for boys or girls. Please make sure your gift is wrapped and labeled for “boy” or “girl”. Also collected are gift cards in the amount of $20 for Walmart or Meijer which are used for the kids as gifts and incentives throughout the year. Later this week, I will be mailing out a letter to all registered members of the parish. This letter will include a Christmas schedule and special Christmas envelope for each parish. Please share this information (confession sched-ule and mass time for the holidays) with family members and friends. Finally, please note the time of mass on Thursday, November 23. While Thanksgiving Day is not a holy day, it is a national holiday to give thanks to God. Abraham Lincoln originated the observance in 1863. In spite of the Civil War, he reminded people to be grateful to God. With all the turmoil and violence in the world, come and join us for the Original Thanksgiving Meal. Here are the times: St. Joseph Church, downtown St. Joseph: 8:00am St. Bernard Church, Benton Harbor 10:00am Sincerely, Fr. Bob

Many of our volunteers leave us for the winter, this leaves a short-age of both Readers and Eucha-ristic ministers for all mass times. We could really use your help and training is provided. Please prayerfully consider offer-ing your service in one of these vital roles in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We also need more Al-tar Servers, age is not a factor, you’re never too old to serve in the Mass. Contact the parish office for more information.
