Jesus is the trueEaster

The English term easter, according to Saint Bede, the famous missionary of England (VII century

relates to Estre, a Teutonic goddess of the rising light of day and spring; who among Anglo-Saxons w

called ester, estron. April was called easter-monadh. So, the catholic missionaries changed the meani

of this pagan custom into a Christian meaning. The name remained but the meaning of the celebratio

changed. In effect, Christ is true the light; Christ is life: "I am the Resurrection and the life" (Jn 11:25).

By rising from death and darkness Jesus has restored life and light. He has defeated death which

the enemy that terrifies people: Saint Paul defies death by saying: Death, where is your sting? Hade

where is your victory? (I Cor 15:55)

What does "rising" mean? In death, there is the separation of the soul from the body. The hum

body decays but the soul goes to meet God, and awaits its reunion with its glorified body. God, in h

almighty power, will definitively grant incorruptible life to our bodies by reuniting them with our sou

through the power of Jesus' Resurrection.

Who will rise? All the dead will rise, "those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, a

those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment" (Jn 5:29).

How? Christ is raised with his own body: "See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself" ( L

24:39); but he did not return to an earthly life. So, in him, " all of them will rise again with their ow

bodies which they now bear," but Christ "will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body," into"spiritual body" (Lateran Council IV, 1215). This "how" exceeds our imagination and understanding; it

accessible only through faith.

When? Definitively "at the last day," "at the end of the world"(Jn 6: 39-40) Indeed, the resurrectio

of the dead is closely associated with Christ's coming: For the Lord himself will descend from heave

with a cry of command, with the archangel's call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God and the de

So, Jesus is God who became man in order to destroy both spiritual and bodily death. Let

rejoice today because there is no longer a motive to fear death. Jesus has restored our life. It is a matter

time. We have to wait for the last day when Christ returns to us a body like his.

El trmino ingls easter, segn San Beda, el renombrado misionero de Inglaterra (siglo VII),

relaciona con Eastre, la diosa teutnica de la luz del da y la primavera; entre los anglosajones fue llamad

ester, estron y Abril fue llamado easter-monadh. Entonces, los misioneros catlicos cambiaron

significado de esta festividad pagana en cristiana. El nombre qued, pero el sentido de la celebraci

cambi. En efecto, Cristo es la verdadera luz, Cristo es la vida: yo soy la resurreccin y la vida.(Ju

11, 25)

Al resucitar de la muerte y la oscuridad Cristo ha restaurado la vida y la luz. l ha vencido

muerte que es el enemigo que aterra a la gente. San Pablo desafa la muerte al decir: Dnde esta muer

tu aguijn, donde infierno tu victoria?(I Cor 15,55)

Qu es resucitar? En la muerte, la separacin del alma y del cuerpo, el cuerpo humano

corrompe y el alma va al encuentro de Dios, mientras espera su reunin con su cuerpo glorificado. Dio

en su poder, otorgar definitivamente la vida incorruptible a nuestros cuerpos al reunirlos con nuestralmas, mediante el poder de la Resurreccin de Jesucristo.

Quines resucitarn? Todos los muertos resucitarn, aquellos que han hecho el bien para

resurreccin de la vida, y aquellos que han hecho mal, para la resurreccin del juicio(Juan 5, 29)

Cmo? Cristo resucit con su propio cuerpo: Miren mis manos y mis pies que soy Yo mismo(L

24:39); pero l no retorn a una vida terrenal. As, en El, todos ellos resucitarn nuevamente con l

cuerpos que ahora poseen, pero Cristo cambiar nuestros simples cuerpos en cuerpo gloriosos como

suyo, en un cuerpo espiritual (Concilio de Letrn, 1215). Este cmo excede nuestra imaginacin

comprensin; solo es accesible a la fe.

Cundo? Definitivamente en el ultimo da, al fin del mundo (Juan 6, 39-40). Realmente,

resurreccin de los muertos est estrechamente relacionada con la venida de Cristo: Pues el mismo Se

descender del cielo, con una orden, con la llamada de los arcngeles, y con el sonido de la trompeta, l

muertos resucitarn primero en Cristo.(1 Thess 4,16)

Entonces, Jess, que es Dios, se hizo hombre para destruir la muerte espiritual y fsicAlegrmonos hoy porque no hay ms motivo de temer a la muerte. Jess ha restaurado nuestra vida. Es u

asunto de tiempo, pues tenemos que esperar hasta el ltimo da cuando Jess nos devuelva un cuerp

como el suyo.
