Program FeaturesTravel and Tourism is an applied career-oriented major. Through class activities, applied research projects, site visits, and invited speakers, students gain the necessary tools and experience to build successful careers in the tourism industry.

Travel and TourismTravel and tourism is a 45-credit major pro-gram, and a 24-credit minor designed to prepare students for careers in one of the world’s fastest growing industries. Worldwide spending for tour-ism exceeds $3 trillion and employs s more than 200 million people. Only the health care industry generates more jobs than does travel and tour-ism in the United States. In Minnesota, domestic and international tourists contribute $9.8 billion to the state economy, nearly half of which goes to salaries and wages. The Travel and Tourism program prepares students for a variety of careers. Graduates of the program work for major compa-nies and corporations in Minnesota and through-out the United States and abroad in such areas as travel planning, accommodations, airlines, attrac-tions/ events management, corporate travel, cruise lines, government, tour operations, automobile rental and many more.
