ABOUT THE CONFERENCE…▶The PHP Conference is one of the few undergraduate
conferences in Canada▶It is organized by students along with two faculty
advisors▶Sessions run during the day on Friday and Saturday▶Each session is 1 hour and 15 minutes long; typically 3
students present in each session
PRESENTING AT THE CONFERENCE
▶Feel free to discuss your paper with a professor or one of the members of the PHP Conference Committee to get it ready for presentation▶At the conference you will give a 10-15 minute presentation to a panel that includes fellow students and your professors▶After your presentation you will spend approximately 5 minutes answering questions from members of the audience
HOW DOES PARTICIPATING IN THE CONFERENCE BENEFIT ME?
▶Great opportunity to practice public speaking in a friendly and relaxed environment▶Presenting at the PHP Conference will stand out
on your academic resume▶You will meet other students in your field of
interest from across North America▶You get the chance to share your ideas, research
and hard work with other like-minded students
EXTERNAL KEYNOTE ADDRESSJAN 20, 7PM
Our External Keynote Speaker for 2017 is Joe Anderson, professor of History at Mount Royal University in Calgary. ▶Dr. Anderson’s research interests are Food and
Culture, History of Technology, Public History, American Midwest, Agriculture and Rural Life, and Environmental History. ▶The title of his Keynote Address is TBA
CONFERENCE BANQUET
JAN 21, 5:30PM, Hotel 540▶Tickets will be $35.00 which includes a buffet
dinner and dance. An additional ticket can be purchased for a guest▶Dr. Bruce Baugh, Professor of Philosophy at TRU,
will be giving an address at the banquet called “Walking, Coleridge and the Poetic Imagination”
REGISTRATION▶Registration is FREE for TRU students. Every student,
including all TRU students MUST register. ▶Registration closes January 19, 2017. Please try to
register by Jan. 13 so that we have a better idea of how many people will be attending▶Registration includes lunch on Friday and Saturday, a
continental breakfast on Saturday, and tickets for the Post-Address Reception, it does not include banquet tickets.▶You can register on the website, but when you get to
the conference, you must come to the registration table to sign in.
