Gracias madres

Dice la Escritura: Como quien acumula tesoros, as es el que tributa honor a su madre

(Ecl 3,3). En su da me dirijo a las todas las madres de la parroquia siguiendo el consejo del autor

sagrado. Quiero hacer una breve reflexin acerca de la maternidad, consiente que estas breves

palabras no pueden expresar la riqueza de esta realidad.

Dios ha llamado al hombre y a la mujer a darse completamente en la alianza matrimonial,

sea humana o divina. El hombre y la mujer por su naturaleza estn llamados a ser don, es

decir, a darse recprocamente. Sin embargo, muchos por miedo o egosmo no quieren dar un s

definitivo y entregarse el uno al otro para siempre en una alianza matrimonial. Esto trae como

consecuencia que dentro de ese matrimonio ambos no quieren realizar la otra entrega total al

negar la fertilidad y abandonar la misin de dar vida en los hijos. Esto ocurre debido a una

mentalidad hedonista y egosta que penetra en no pocos cristianos.

No obstante, la entrega y la apertura a la vida, la cual es solo condicin para que eldador de toda vida, que es Dios, otorgue el regalo de una vida, de un hijo. Eva, la madre de

todos los vivientes, expresaba: He adquirido un varn con el favor de Dios (Gen 4, 1).

Si bien el hombre y la mujer son progenitores dice el papa Juan Pablo II en su hermosa

exhortacin sobre la dignidad de la mujer que: la maternidad de la mujer constituye una

parte especial de este ser padres en comn, as como la parte ms cualificada. Aunque el

hecho de ser padres pertenece a los dos, es una realidad ms profunda en la mujer,

especialmente en el perodo prenatal. La mujer es la que paga directamente por este comn

engendrar, que absorbe literalmente las energas de su cuerpo y de su alma. Por consiguiente,

es necesario que el hombre sea plenamente consciente de que en este ser padres en comn, lcontrae una deuda especial con la mujer(#18).

La mujer-madre tiene la parte ms cualificada. El esposo debe ser consciente de su deuda

con la mujer, pues es la mujer la que ha llevado por nueve meses ese hijo de ambos; ella es la

que ha dado de todas sus energas fsicas, psicolgicas y espirituales para dar al hombre el hijo.

Por eso, hoy, no solo los hijos deben tributar un honor especial a las madres, sino tambin los

esposos. Quizs es este es un aspecto que no tenemos en cuenta.

La realidad de ser madre no solo es fsica sino espiritual. La madre es la primera

educadora del hombre la educacin es la dimensin espiritual de ser padres- tiene una

preeminencia sobre el hombre. Dice el Papa: la mujerimprime un signoesencial sobre todo el

proceso del hacer crecer como personas los nuevos hijos e hijas (#19).

Esta realidad la encontramos en el evangelio. Cuando los hombres quisieron alabar la

grandeza de Cristo, se refirieron a su madre: Feliz el seno que te llevo y el seno que te amanto.

Ella imprimi un signo especial en su Hijo. Pero, Cristo se apresura a elevar el sentido de la

maternidad de lo fsico a lo espiritual al decir: Dichosos ms bien los que oyen la Palabra de

Dios y la guardan (Lc 11, 27-28). En efecto, Maria su Madre escuchaba y guardaba todas las

cosas en su corazn. San Agustin dice: "Ms bienaventurada es Mara al recibir a Cristo por la

fe que al concebir en su seno la carne de Cristo". As tambin una madre es ms porque lleva a

sus hijos en su corazn con el amor y la educacin que por haberlos llevado en su seno.

A todas las madres invito a que miren a Maria como ejemplo de Madre. Que ella lesayude a consolidar la vocacin ms alta que tiene una mujer: ser madre fsica y espiritual. Que,

tambin, unan a ella, cuyo corazn fue traspasado por una espada, los dolores de madre: dolor

por el abandono de los hijos, dolor por la muerte del hijo, dolor por las adicciones de los hijos,

dolor por la reclusin en la crcel del hijo

Hoy, yo, como tantos de ustedes queremos recordar a nuestras madres que ya no estn

con su presencia fsica. Mi madre hace cinco aos parti hacia la eternidad. Pero, una madre no

deja de serlo despus de la muerte, ellas, si, por la misericordia de Dios, han alcanzado la eterna

gloria, con ms fuerza siguen ejerciendo la maternidad espiritual por esa misteriosa unin de la

comunin de los santos.

Happy day, mothers!!!

The Bible says: they store up riches who honor their mother (Sirach 3, 3). On your day

I address all you mothers by following the advice of the sacred author. I would like to make a

brief reflection about your maternity being aware that these few words fall short in expressing

this wonderful mystery.

God has called man and woman to give of themselves completely through a covenant

either human in marriage or divine in priesthood. Both, woman and man are called by nature to

be a gift, namely, to give fully reciprocally. Unfortunately in these times many dont want to

make a covenant of love forever because they fear failure or taking responsibilities. As a

consequence of that, many dont want to give themselves totally by offering their fertility in the

marriage. They close themselves to being Gods partner in giving life. Both attitudes may have

their root in pleasure-seeking attitude. So, parents do not want miss out on watching your child

sing a son, seeing a bird fly, playing with other children, getting baptized, getting married and

being ordained as priest.

Regarding this last aspect, although man and woman are open to having a child as a fruit

of their love, it finally depends on the will of God. He is the one who makes you parents. You

only put the condition for life to happen. Every child is a gift from God. Eve, the mother of all

living beings, was aware of that: I have produced a male child with the help of the Lord (Gen

4, 1).

Man and woman are involved in this wonderful vocation of procreating a new life.

However, woman has a special responsibility and honor. John Paul II expresses in this manner in

his beautiful letter on the dignity of woman: Although both of them together are parents of theirchild, the woman's motherhood constitutes a special part in this shared parenthood, and the

most demanding part. Parenthood - even though it belongs to both - is realized much more fully

in the woman, especially in the prenatal period. It is the woman who paysdirectly for this

shared generation, which literally absorbs the energies of her body and soul. It is therefore

necessary that the man be fully aware that in their shared parenthood he owes a special debt to

the woman (D.M. #18).

Since the woman has a special and demanding part in bringing a child to this world, the

husband has to be fully aware of this debt toward his wife. She carries the baby for nine months;

she gives her physical and spiritual energies. May be this is one aspect that many of us donthave in our minds. Therefore, not only children have to tribute honor to their mothers today but

also their husbands to their wives.

A woman is not a mother only for bringing a child to this world; she is mother above all

for bringing her child up. This is spiritual maternity. Mother is the first teacher of her child.

Mother has a special preeminence over man in this regard. John Paul II says: woman places an

essential "mark" on the whole personal growth process of new children. (DM #19)

Jesus Christ highlighted this spiritual dimension of motherhood. When He was praised

because of his mother with this words: Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at

which you nursed, Jesus elevated the meaning of this physical aspect to a spiritual level and

replied: rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it (Lk 11: 27-28). In

effect, Mary listened to God and kept His words in her heart. Saint Agustin says: Mary is more

blessed because she embraces faith in Christ than because she conceives the flesh of Christ." A

good mother should bear her children in her heart by raising them and loving them.

Today I invite all mothers to look at Mary as your standard. May she help you to

consolidate in the highest vocation you could ever have: to be a mother. May you bring your

maternal sufferings to her whose heart was pierced by a sword: the one who was abandoned by a

child, the one who lost a child; the one who has a child in jail; the one who has an addicted

child

Today, I want to remember the mothers who are no longer with us. My mother left to

eternity some years ago. However, I feel her presence more than ever. A mother doesnt stopbeing such when she dies. On the contrary, if she is with God, the bond with her becomes

stronger due to the mystery of the communion of saints.
