Existing Land Use Development Plans should be reviewed
to reflect the best and most accurate information on coastal
erosion. It is important that Plans are based on a suitable
evidence base which identifies and understands all forms
of coastal hazard risk and how it is changing (hazard,
vulnerabilities, consequences and risk). The objective must
be to avoid new development in areas at risk of erosion
and other coastal hazards and to plan to sustainably reduce
coastal hazard risks in areas which are already developed.
Existing plans and policies towards development in the
coastal zone should therefore be reviewed and updated to
reflect the conclusions of this project.
